Celtic oppidum of Třísov

A fortified Celtic settlement above the Vltava – one of the most important prehistoric sites in South Bohemia.

The Celtic oppidum of Třísov is one of the most important prehistoric sites in South Bohemia. The Celts – here mainly the Boii tribe – built a fortified, town-like settlement on this site in the 2nd century BC.

Třísov is the southernmost of the oppida along the Vltava, an important link between the Bohemian basin and the Danube region. Today it is a national cultural monument and a popular walk with beautiful views.
