Rožmberk Castle

A vast castle complex on a promontory above the Vltava with the round Jakobínka tower.

Rožmberk Castle is a vast castle complex on a promontory above the Vltava River. Of the early Gothic Upper Castle from the 13th century, only the round Jakobínka tower survived a fire in 1522.

The core of today’s castle is the Lower Castle from the 14th century, rebuilt several times – Gothic, Renaissance and re-Gothicised in the 19th century. The road there follows the beautiful Vltava valley.
