Hluboká Castle

Hluboká Castle

A romantic castle modelled on Windsor, one of the most visited sights in the Czech Republic.

Hluboká Castle stands on a hill above the Vltava, about 15 km north of České Budějovice. It got its present Tudor Gothic look, modelled on England’s Windsor Castle, in the mid-19th century under the Schwarzenberg family.

The interiors are decorated with woodcarvings, paintings by European masters, chandeliers and Delft ceramics; the largest room is the library with a coffered ceiling. The former riding hall houses the Aleš South Bohemian Gallery. The castle is surrounded by an English park.
